Here, we pinpoint the trends taking hold worldwide—and those just emerging from downtown to the beach cities.

They come and go, evolving with each passing season. They’re found on the runways, but soon translate to city streets. They define a generation and turn up years later for a revered reappearance. These are the trends to watch for, to celebrate, to look to. These are the styles that will broaden your design horizon.

At Design in Color, we explore what’s coming and going in colors, aesthetics, layouts, and textures.

It’s here where we are aware of the shifts that occur throughout every industry. We might discuss how metallic accents and finishes are prevalent through the industries of fashion and architecture, but also weave their way into furniture and interior design. We might elaborate on how jewel colors remain significant and elegant, finding their way into panel draperies and velvet egg chairs. It’s here where we investigate design ranging from Scandinavian to midcentury, the slow movement to Japanese wabi-sabi. And it’s here where we see how the appetite for minimalism influences design choices in unconventional ways, and how neutrals are rising and shifting in support of this trend.

We select all the trends burgeoning in L.A., from the designers like you who visit foreign countries and bring fresh ideas back home. We bring to light the small movements in the avant-garde districts of our own buzzing metro. We invite you to follow along. Join us as we seek to feature the trends that push the limits and provide new outlooks on our work. We hope these features inspire you, as trend followers and trend makers, and help you to anticipate how trends influence your work, and to see how your design is influencing new trends to come. Join the discourse, send photographs of your projects, and mention to us the innovators and original thinkers who you are partnering with who we may want to spotlight.
